El Vocabulario

As I keep telling everyone here, I've been studying Spanish for fifteen years and I still have a long way to go before I consider myself fully fluent. Chile is known for its specific Spanish dialect flled with many Chilenismos. Here's an ongoing list of phrases I've learned (or re-learned):

- Prefacing with "La/El" when speaking of someone in the thirs person (i.e. La Lucinda)

Si, poh = Yes

No, poh = No 

Pololo/a = Boyfriend/girlfriend, instead of novio/a

Wacho/a = Beautiful person, informal

Wachito Rico = Variant of 'wacho/a', can be used as title for when you're seeing someone

Palta = Avocado, instead of aguacate

Porotos = Beans, instead of frijoles

Fome = Boring, instead of aburrido

Bacán = Cool

Cachar = To understand, instead of comprender

¿Cachai? =  Conjugation of Cachar, used after statements to check for understanding

Tontorrón = fool

Al tiro = Soon or 'As Soon as I can'; usually a lie 

Cuico = Someone more economically comfortable/richer class

Flaite = Someone from the lower class

Chela = Beer, instead of cerveza

Carrete = Party or club, instead of fiesta
